The proposed Lappe Wind Energy Facility will be located on approximately 1,000 hectares of leased private land, in the geographic Township of Gorham in the District of Thunder Bay, north of the City of Thunder Bay, Ontario. Two meteorological test towers have been collecting wind data since 2010 and the preliminary resource assessment indicates the potential to develop a 30-50MW wind energy facility.

Project Overview

Wind Resource: Two meteorological test towers were installed in 2010 and initial results indicate an above average wind resource. Gilead will continue to collect wind data and complete a detailed wind resource assessment in the coming year to provide information on capacity, long term projections and potential electricity generation.

Progress to date: Currently in the preliminary stages of development, work completed thus far includes critical issues assessments for environmental considerations.

The project will require a Renewable Energy Approval which will include environmental assessment, cultural and archaeological heritage assessment, acoustical assessment, community consultation, and Aboriginal community and stakeholder engagement activities.

Transmission options: Based on an initial assessment, the proposed project is expected to connect to the 115kV transmission line, owned and operated by Hydro One Networks Inc., in close proximity to the project.
